about

Maddison Lauren Trezise is a visual artist hailing from Naarm (Melbourne) and living on Wadawurrung land (Ballarat). The foundations of her practice are multidisciplinary though Ceramics now sits at the fore.  She explores complex themes around feminism, myth and mysticism.  Using the gestural and direct nature of clay to channel visions and express her inner world into form.

Her artistic journey began from an early age, drawing inspiration from her older brother Jason Waterhouse after frequent exposure to contemporary art, exhibitions and arts practice through her childhood and adolescence.  Obsessed with photography and image making in high school she went on to attend the Victorian College of The Arts through the Drawing Department in 2006 and 2008, after which she went on to do her own self-guided Studio Practice.

Maddison went back to school and became a remedial massage therapist, reiki practioner and sound healer, expressing her creative energy in that way for over 13 years, making on the side until she came to ceramics as a way to create balance in her life of motherhood and care work.  She soon became absolutely enamoured by it and in 2024 after a move to Regional Victoria Maddison committed to her ceramics practice full-time.   Deciding it was finally the moment to re-launch her Career as an Artist.

Maddison co-founded the Ballarat Clay Collective with Steph Wallace and Ruby Pilven in 2024 as a social enterprise created to inspire and activate opportunity for local potters and ceramic artists. In March this year (2025), She also established Studio Ceramics Ballarat to run wheel throwing and hand-building classes from her home studio in Ballarat.

Maddison is passionate about teaching, sharing her knowledge and using her artistic voice as a way to advocate for gender equity and women’s rights.
